TABLE OF CONTENTS
You cannot browse for private channels in Slack. To join, you will need to be invited by one of the private channel's members. You can leave a channel at any time and rejoin when you need to.
Joining a Channel
- Desktop
- Click the “Plus” icon next to Channels in your left Sidebar.
- Select “Browse channels.”
- Select a listed channel, or type a channel name in the search bar.
- Click “Join Channel” or press “Enter.”
Note: If you know the name of the channel you'd like to join, you can also type /join followed by # and the channel name in the message field and send the message.
- Mobile
- Tap “Home” at the bottom of the screen.
- Swipe right to open the main menu.
- Tap “Channels” to open the channel browser.
- Search for a channel or select one from the list.
- Tap “Join Channel.”
Leaving a Channel
- Desktop
- From the channel, click “Details” (information icon) in the top right.
- Click “More” (three dots icon).
- Select “Leave [channel name]” from the menu. (If it is a private channel, click “Yes, leave the private channel” to confirm.)
- iOS
- From the channel, tap “Details” (information icon) in the top right.
- Tap “Leave Channel.”
- Android
- From the channel, tap “Details” (information icon) in the top right.
- Tap “Leave.”
Note: To leave a channel, you can also use the slash command /leave followed by the channel's name.
