TABLE OF CONTENTS

Slack uses threads to organize conversations by context. From any message, you can start a thread to ask a question or give feedback without disrupting a conversation's flow. A thread will remain connected to its original message, and only those who contribute or follow the thread will be notified of new replies.

  • Desktop
    • Hover over the message to reply.
    • Click the start a thread icon (conversation bubble).
    • Write your message.
    • Click “Send.”
  • iOS and Android

    • Tap the start a thread icon (conversation bubble), or tap the “Add a reply” field to add to an existing thread.
    • Type your reply.

Understanding Mentions and Notifications in Threads

  • You will be notified automatically when there is a new reply to a thread you start or reply to, or when you are mentioned in the original message.
  • When you do not engage with a thread, you can still follow it to stay in the loop.
  • You can unfollow a thread at any point to stop notifications when new activity happens.
