When you set up a workspace, you become the Workspace Primary Owner. You can create a workspace using a desktop, iOS, or Android, as shown in the instructions below. As you set up a workspace, you will also set up a channel to start organizing conversations.

Using a Desktop to Create a Workspace and a Channel

  • Go to slack.com/create.
  • Enter your email address, then click “Next.” Check your email for a 6-digit confirmation code. (If you do not receive a code, review these troubleshooting tips.)
  • Enter your code, create a name for your workspace, and click “Next.”
  • Create a new channel for your workspace by clicking the “Plus” icon next to Channels in the left Sidebar. (Channels organize conversations about any topic, like a project your team is working on.)
    • Create a channel name that is descriptive to its purpose.
    • Add a description so your team members will know what topic the channel will focus on.
    • (Optional) Click the toggle next to Make private if you want the channel to be private for specific users.
    • Click “Create.”
    • Add coworkers' email addresses to invite them to collaborate. Or, you can skip this step for now.
  • Click “See Your Channel” in Slack to visit your workspace.
  • Select “Finish Signing Up” at the top of the screen. Enter your name and password, and then click “Next.”
