Microsoft 365 in Canvas

  • If you are a Canvas school located in the Americas, Canvas administrators can generate a key/secret to install the tool in the Edu App Center.
  • The features included in the 365 integration are:
    • Authentication: Canvas users can use the Office 365 ID to sign in to both Canvas and Office 365.
    • Link to a document: Instructors can easily create and add course materials, quizzes, and collaborative documents from their OneDrive folders to their course modules.
    • Assignments: Instructors can create cloud (live) assignments for students to submit without downloading a document. Instructors can grade them in SpeedGrader like any other Canvas assignment.
    • Collaborations: Students can work together on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents.
  • The following are not supported by the 365 integration:
    • The OneNote add-in is not managed or maintained by Canvas.
  • Troubleshooting tips for the 365 integration:
    • If a user is not able to view a file, check the document viewing permissions to ensure that the user has permission to view that document.
    • If a user is not able to view a file, check to ensure they are signed in to the correct Microsoft account.
    • If a user is not able to view a file, check with your institution’s Microsoft Admin. The settings for your Microsoft account may prevent sharing documents outside your domain.
    • Even with SSO for Microsoft, users will still need to log into the Microsoft LTI application.
